Three Years on: No Justice Yet for Murdered Cynthia Osokogu

The lingering murder trial of Cynthia Osokogwu suffered another adjournment on Wednesday at the Igbosere High Court, Lagos, due to the alleged illness of Ezike Olisa-Chidera, one of the suspects, reported the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Olisa-Chidera, 25, who walked with an allegedly fake but noticeable limp was supposed to give evidence before Justice Olabisi Akinlade but could not go into the witness box after claiming to have severe stomach pains.

Mr. Michael Ajayi, counsel to Olisa-Chidera, told the court that his client was too ill to testify.

The case was then adjourned to April 15, April 28 and May 5 for continuation of trial.

Olisa-Chidera is standing trial alongside Okwumo Nwabufor, 35; Orji Osita, 34; and Ezike Ifechukwu, 26.
They have been accused of the July 22, 2012 murder of their Facebook friend, Cynthia Osokogwu, 24, a postgraduate student of Nasarawa State University, at Cosmilla Hotel, Lake View Estate, Festac Town, Lagos.

10 Steps to Create a Hugely Attractive CV that Gets You Interview Invitations

No matter what anyone tells you there is only one test of a truly compelling and successful CV

And that is

The number of job invites or interview invitations you get

Your CV or Resume has only one job to do when you submit it to recruiters or employers for a position you wish to be considered for.

And that job is to make the company call you for further talks.

So you CV/Resume is your spokesman. It is the one document that tells the prospective employer whether it is worthwhile calling you for further proof of your suitability for the job. So why do people overlook the quality and well-being of their CV?

If you ask us na who we go ask..

Straight away to the 10 steps you can take to rebrand your CV to become a very powerful spokesman for you;

1. Know what a successful CV means: We have explained above what a good CV is expected to do for you
2. Choose a clear design and layout: Your CV must look good on the eye. That encourages the recruiter to take a longer look at it. Poorly designed CVs tell the employer you are probably a careless person and not a professional.
3. Basic sections and outlines: Draft your CV along the basic sections like Personal details, career summary or highlights, work experience, education, skills, awards etc. Having your CV written in clear sections makes for a professional CV. Don't just jumble information together
4. What is the ideal pagelimit?: Ideally your CV should be 2 pages but for senior level, very experienced persons it ca always be more than that. The key is to not fill your CV with irrelevant information
5. Tailor to the role: Having a good CV written for doesn't mean you have nothing else to do. All jobs are not the same so you may have to tailor your main CV template to suit each job especially when the requirements are different
6. KISS: Keep it Simple Stupid. No long useless grammatical braggadocio (you get the drift?)
7. Go heavy on skills section: You have skills relevant for the kind of jobs you wish to apply for? Make sure you include them as clearly as possible. Skills even help a candidate appear in searches by employers
8. Achievements vs Responsibilities: Don't just list responsibilities. Try to itemise the achievements you made in each past or present position held. If you can name figures, stats etc the better.
9. Vet for unnecessary errors: Your CV should be as error free as possible. vet your CV before use in applications
10. Review and update regularly: That you have a good CV now doesn't mean it will be relevant for all jobs or good enough in a year time. Always review, add up new skills and qualifications you have. Beef up your CV. Just like you periodically upgrade your wardrobe

INEC Cannot Guarantee That Elections Will Hold On March 28

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega whilst answering questions from Senators at the plenary session of the Senate today where senators asked him several questions regarding the forthcoming elections.

Senator Gbenga Ashafa representing Lagos East senatorial district sought the assurance of the INEC Chairman that elections would hold on March 28 for Presidential and National Assembly elections whilst Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections would hold on April 11, 2015.

Responding to this, Professor Jega stated that it was difficult to give such a guarantee because "there are things under INEC's control and there are things outside of INEC's control. It is futile to make pronouncements on things that are outside of INEC's control." He said questions about things outside of INEC control should be directed to the appropriate quarters.

Professor Jega also explained that it is not possible to use Temporary Voters Card (TVC)because it had been discovered that there are 4 million people who did double registration to obtain them and their names had been struck out of the voter's register. Attempting to use TVCs on election day would lead to chaos as the people with TVCs that had committed double registration fraud would not be able to vote and would protest at polling units as happened in Anambra during the gubernatorial election there in 2013.

Native Doctors Storm Imo Govt House For Cleansing Over Alleged Coffin

Native doctors and traditional rulers yesterday stormed the Imo Government House, Owerri to perform what they described as exorcism of evil spirits, saying they came to cleanse the state of the curse placed by widows who protested last Tuesday.

The libation-pouring exercise, which began at the main gate of the Government House, was presided over by traditional rulers mainly from the Governor Rochas Okorocha’s community of Ideato South.

According to TheNationalMirror, the monarchs alleged that the Minister of State for Education, Prof Viola Onwuliri, mobilised the widows who were brutalised in the course of their protest march against the governor.

It would be recalled that a few days back, hundreds of women mobilized by the Minister of State for Education, Mrs. Viola Onwuliri stormed Government house to protest against Governor Rochas Okorocha’s administration.

Soldiers reportedly under orders from Ms. Onwuliri also heightened the tension as they positioned
one armored personnel carrier (APC) at the entrance of the Government House. Some sources claimed that the soldiers assaulted Mr. Okorocha’s supporters who came out to oppose the rampaging women sponsored by the minister.

Onwuliri and Governor Okorocha have been engaged in a series of verbal feuds, with the minister vowing not to allow the governor to work against President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election.

Sources said the women who invaded Government House in Owerri, the Imo State capital, were widows recruited from the 27 local government areas. As early as 6.30 a.m., the women assembled along Okigwe Road in Owerri, chanting anti-Okorocha slogans. They then proceeded to Government House with a mock coffin, but security men attached to Government House dispersed them.

Chairman of Ideato Council of Traditional Rulers, Ajaraogu of Ogwume Community, Eze Ethelbert,
said he and the entire council of Ndi Eze in the council area had earlier visited the traditional ruler of Amuzi in Ahiazu Mbaise, Eze Innocent Ugochukwu, to warn their daughter, Onwuliri, and her group against contending with the governor.

Eze Ajaraogu stated that they came to the Government House to neutralise whatever evil the action of the widows may have attracted, as they jointly poured libation to cleanse the Douglas House.

Pouring the libation, they prayed for divine guidance and protection of Okorocha saying:
“Our son, Owelle Okorocha, you did not cheat anyone to come to Government House but were duly elected by the entire Imo people, so no one will hurt you. Fear not, your people are with you and you shall return,” he chanted.
Also, the deputy chairman, Eze Peter Ewuziem of Umuakam noted that for over 40 years he has been on the throne, “this is the first time anyone would carry a coffin to the domain of either civilian or military leader; any person who planned this evil must receive it back.”

However, one of the brutalised widows maintained that she was part of the protest march and no coffin was on display. She said:
“Who would carry the coffin, is it the old women? There was no coffin anywhere, but if they insist they saw a coffin, then perhaps their gods may be giving them a sign of doom.”
Meanwhile, Mrs Onwuliri has called on the governor to apologise to the widows for encouraging young men to “attack and beat up their mothers.”

She said, “Even in the Bible, there is a curse attached to such atrocity and whoever may have participated or engineered the attack on harmless widows, who merely engaged in a peaceful protest, cannot go unpunished
